The Barcelona-based startup, a spin-off from the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), develops self-powered IoT sensors using piezoelectric technology, enabling grid operators to monitor their infrastructure in real time without maintenance requirements.
Barcelona, May 27, 2026
Energiot Devices, the Barcelona-based startup specializing in the digitalization of electrical infrastructure, has closed a €1.5 million funding round led by Inclimo, the venture capital fund focused on climate tech. The round also included participation from EASO Ventures and BStartup, Banco Sabadell’s investment vehicle for startups, as new investors, alongside Axon Partners, and with continued support from existing shareholders InnoEnergy and Axel Carbon Capital.
Founded in 2017 as a spin-off of the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM, CSIC), Energiot has developed a new generation of IoT sensors powered by proprietary piezoelectric technology that harvests energy directly from power lines, eliminating the need for battery replacement and periodic maintenance. Protected by a family of patents, this technology enables large-scale deployments across critical high-, medium-, and low-voltage infrastructure.
“This funding round marks a turning point for Energiot. We are moving from proving that the technology works to deploying it at scale with leading European grid operators. The confidence shown by Inclimo, EASO, and BStartup, our new strategic investors, validates years of work and provides us with the resources to execute the next chapter.”
Gonzalo Murillo, CEO and Co-founder of Energiot
The funding will allow Energiot to strengthen its technical team, advance hardware industrialization, and intensify commercial activities in its current markets: Spain, France, Italy, Belgium, Lithuania, and the Netherlands. The company, which already works with some of Europe’s leading grid operators, aims to consolidate its presence in these markets before expanding into new geographies.
Currently employing a team of fourteen people, Energiot has completed sixteen projects with ten tier-one utility operators across six countries, including Iberdrola, Red Eléctrica de España (REE), Enel, Elia, and Alliander. In recent months, some of these pilot projects have been converted into tender-awarded commercial contracts with Iberdrola (Spain) and Litgrid (Lithuania), where Energiot successfully competed against other technology providers.
“At Inclimo, we seek solutions that address the root challenges of power grid digitalization. Energiot has a genuinely differentiated technology, its piezoelectric self-powered capability represents a competitive advantage that is difficult to replicate, combined with a team that deeply understands the sector. It is exactly the type of company that Inclimo wants to support from the outset.”
Emili Curia, Investment Manager at Inclimo
Energiot’s business model combines hardware sales with recurring Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings. This enables grid operators to reduce operating costs, prevent failures, optimize network capacity through Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) without requiring new infrastructure investments, and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources.
“At EASO Ventures, we invest in deep-tech companies delivering real impact on the decarbonization of the energy system. Energiot fits perfectly within that thesis: strong intellectual property developed over many years at CSIC, proven traction with leading European utilities, and a market that continues to grow rapidly. We are delighted to support the company in this next stage.”
Pedro Muñoz, EASO Ventures
The coming months will focus on converting active pilots into deployment contracts, launching drone-based installation capabilities, scheduled for later this year, and expanding the team to support commercial growth.
“At BStartup, we support companies that combine robust technology with a genuine ability to scale in demanding markets. Energiot meets both criteria: years of rigorous technical development backed by CSIC and a customer base that includes some of Europe’s largest power network operators. This is a clear investment in impactful industrial innovation.”
Laurent Arens, Director of BStartup, Banco Sabadell
In the medium term, Energiot aims to establish itself as the leading platform for intelligent power grid monitoring in Europe, leveraging the regulatory momentum behind the energy transition and the growing pressure on grid operators to integrate renewable energy without compromising network stability. The company’s roadmap includes exploring new geographies once it has consolidated its position in existing markets, where it already maintains relationships with some of the largest transmission and distribution operators in Latin America, the United States, and Asia.
